Well financed US Foundations attack Alaska salmon competitors
As reported by Dave Hay, 99.7 The River News, April 15, 2010

Salmon farming employs 6000 Vancouver Islanders and the people behind the very well financed and organized opposition, were named and called to task at Campbell River City Council. Vivian Krause talked about the real reasons and motivations behind the anti salmon farming industry and where the money comes from to pay for the protests and the flawed research used.

“Aquaculture reform and the de-marketing of farmed salmon has been heavily funded by U.S. Foundations – the same ones that heavily fund the marketing and promotion of Alaskan salmon and Alaskan fish more broadly”, Krause stated to a crowded city hall. “While fisheries, especially salmon, are promoted in the name of sustainability, the competition is thwarted in the name of ‘reform’.”

Krause told Campbell River Council that the fish farm opponents cherry-pick data to support their emotional appeals and ignore data that contradicts their findings. “I conclude that if research shows that sea lice originated from salmon farms put wild salmon at serious risk of extinction then the farms should be closed. But when you take a look at the research closely what you’ll find is that this isn’t what the research actually shows.”
