Record salmon run could end discrimination against 'pinks'

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - This could be a record year for the pink salmon run on the Fraser River.
The fishery is the latest in BC to receive certification from the Marine Stewardship Council.
A local chef says "pinks" shouldn't be seen as second-class fish.
Some people say the pink salmon is only suitable for canning or feeding to your pet, but executive chef Julian Bond with the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts says fresh pink salmon can be quite tasty all depending on how you prepare it.
He says you can grill it, poach it or fry it the same way you do coho or sockeye.
Bond says chefs have even tried rebranding the fish as "silverbright" so more people would eat it.
Last year B.C. pink salmon was sent to 26 countries, bringing in over $22 million.
