Re: Letter to Editor - Time to demand a moratorium on ocean-based fish farms
Miss Grange,
I can appreciate your passion for the preservation of wild salmon stocks, but I disagree with your opinion in regards to the aquaculture industry.
For several years, major operators in the industry have been taking an active role in the recovery of wild salmon stocks. We are committed to the preservation of Pacific salmon.
As for your comments rearding hormone laced feed, If you were to conduct some research you would find that the feed we use is milled with natural ingredients.
I am proud to say that we can manage our feeding practises in order to achieve optimum growth with less feed. We don’t need to “cheat” with hormone additives.
I take great pride in the fact that I am producing a source of food for consumers that is a safe and healthy alternative to wild salmon.
Not to mention the fact that by eating farm salmon we are taking pressure off of wild salmon stocks.
