CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C., January 22, 2015 /3BL Media/ – British Columbia is now home to North America’s first salmon farm certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council. Marine Harvest Canada has announced that its Marsh Bay farm has joined fewer than 30 salmon farms worldwide in achieving the certification first developed by the World Wildlife Fund. The company expects its first ASC certified salmon to be available to consumers in February.

The first salmon farm in North America has become certified against the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Salmon Standard for responsible aquaculture. Marine Harvest Canada's Marsh Bay Farm in British Colombia is the company's ninth farm to gain ASC certification, and the first in North America.

The city will be making a donation to the Town of Port McNeill to help recognize one of the longest serving mayors in Canadian history...The Town of Port McNeill will be honouring Furney next month at a community celebration to recognize his lifetime contribution to the community. The event takes place Saturday, Feb. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at North Island Secondary School in Port McNeill.

Editor: Re: Blue Dot request gets rather cool reception, Jan. 16 David Suzuki and his gullible hordes are ignorant of the democratic process. A constitutional amendment requires the adoption of a resolution by Parliament and the ratification by two-thirds of the provinces comprising a majority of the population. It is not done by shaming municipal councils.
