...Last week the culinary arts students at Maple Ridge Secondary School prepared salmon that was raised by Marine Harvest in the waters off of Northern Vancouver Island. Chef Randle taught students how to cut, fillet and portion a whole salmon, and then showed them how cook the portions to create the perfect result.
Take a Bite of B.C. program farms students’ creativity when it comes to local food

...The farm-raised salmon the culinary arts students prepared last week was donated by the B.C. Salmon Farmers Association as part of the Take a Bite of B.C. program. The program, of which Randle is one of the founders, was developed by the B.C. Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation in partnership with the B.C. Culinary Arts Association, B.C. agricultural commodity groups and B.C. producers.

B.C. Salmon Farmers Association is involved in a program called Take-a-Bite-of-BC.. This program has red seal chefs teaching high end culinary skills to Grade 11/12 students – using quality B.C. ingredients.

Overfishing and Overfished Numbers Hit All-Time Lows
NOAA, April, 15, 2015
As a result of the combined efforts of NOAA Fisheries, the regional fishery management councils, and all our partners, the number of stocks listed as subject to overfishing or overfished continues to decline and is at an all-time low.
Check out the infographic below highlighting the progress we've made rebuilding stocks and ending overfishing. This progress demonstrates that our science-based approach to determining stock status and managing for sustainability is working.
