It’s quick, easy and really healthy – and this year fresh salmon will get some special attention at the EAT! Vancouver food show, May 30 to June 1 at BC Place.
To raise the profile of this nutritious food, the BC Salmon Farmers Association will be partnering with the Heart and Stroke Foundation to raise funds for the foundation and awareness about the heart health benefits of BC-raised salmon. EAT! Vancouver attendees will also learn how to prepare easy, healthy salmon at home from renowned Chef Dave Ryan.

The lack of a federal aquaculture act is hurting British Columbia salmon farming, and the sector as a whole in Canada, say industry leaders...Salmon and Jeremy Dunn, the BC Salmon Farmers Association’s executive director, both say the system in place, coming under provincial and federal jurisdiction, is inefficient and outdated.

A new study published earlier this year shows us what happens when salmon get infected with sea lice. ... The findings are very interesting. Chum are the most negatively affected, followed by Atlantic salmon, with pinks as the least affected.

Senate Fisheries Committee Completes Successful Hearings and Fact-Finding on Aquaculture in Newfoundland and Labrador

Members of the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans were in Newfoundland and Labrador this week as part of their ongoing study on the regulation of aquaculture in Canada. Senators conducted fact-finding activities in the communities of Harbour Breton, St. Alban's, Pool's Cove and Pleasantview touring aquaculture facilities and meeting with producers, local mayors and provincial representatives.

Federal legislation is critical to growing aquaculture in Nova Scotia, says Bryan Bosien, vice-president of Snow Island, a salmon farm on the Eastern Shore...Bosien was part of a panel of industry witnesses that included Pamela Parker, executive director of the Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association; Peter Corey, president of the Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia; and Nell Halse, vice-president of communications with Cooke Aquaculture of New Brunswick, the region’s largest fish farming company.
