16th Annual BC Aquaculture Slo-Pitch Tournament

Campbell River, July 8, 2011. Positive Aquaculture Awareness hosted its 16th Annual BC Aquaculture Slow-Pitch Tournament at Willow Point Park in Campbell River on July 7th and 8th, 2012. Twelve teams from Port Hardy, Campbell River, Comox and Tofino competed in this year’s exciting tournament. All teams entered into the tournament have ties with the aquaculture industry. Round robin play finished on Saturday with single knockouts taking place on Sunday.

The Division A trophy, after spending the past year in Port Hardy, is returning with the Creative Salmon team to spend a year in Tofino. The Creative Salmon team was awarded the trophy after a very competitive final game with the Mainstream Canada team, Slammin’. Creative Salmon team players, Thomas George and Trudy Barr were named male and female tournament MVPs respectively at the award presentations.

The B division trophy is staying in Campbell River with the Marine Harvest Canada sponsored team, the Upchucks. The Upchucks played off the returning team of the  O-Fish-ials.  MVP awards were presented to Upchuck players Brandan McColl and Tania McDonald.

Delicious BBQ farmed salmon, donated by Mainstream Canada was served to tournament participants and spectators on Saturday with the proceeds going Campbell River’s Northwest Shito-Kai Competitive Team. We are pleased to have the opportunity to help the fundraising efforts of the team as they prepare to send three young team members to  represent Canada at the Pan-American Shitoryu Karate-Do Championships in Gatineau, Quebec this August.

“The slo-pitch tournament is another great event that brings our entire industry including both salmon farming companies and suppliers to one venue for a fun filled week end” said Cory Percevault, President of Positive Aquaculture Awareness

Positive Aquaculture Awareness Society mandate is to promote awareness of the aquaculture industry through public education and community involvement.
