Positive Aquaculture Awareness hosted their 1st Annual Positive Aquaculture Awareness Funspiel this past weekend at the Campbell River Curling Club. The event provided the opportunity for 14 Teams from Campbell River and Port Hardy to gather and enjoy a day of friendly competition.

Teams of salmon farmers and industry suppliers from Marine Harvest Canada, Mainstream Canada, BCSFA, Walcan, Noboco, Ocean Pacific Marine, and  Badinotti along with a team with representatives from the  City of Campbell River, Campbell River Visitor Centre, Campbell River Tourism participated in the Funspiel. In addition, a team from the Campbell River Royal Bank of Canada were welcomed participants.

The Royal Bank of Canada generously sponsored an entertaining Funspiel Skills Contest, skilfully organized by RBC representative, Susanne Grundison.  Susanne, supported by the RBC team, really kicked up the fun at this year’s Funspiel with this event.  

The Skills Contest top scorers were the Badinotti team and the Marine Harvest Canada/BCSFA team.  A special thanks to RBC, Susanne and the RBC team!

Two Divisions played in the Funspiel and Top Teams were recognized at the end of the day’s playing. The Division 1 Top Team was Marine Harvest Canada, Port Hardy and the Division 2 Top Team was the City of Campbell River, CR Visitor Centre & CR Tourism Team. This teams members were Councillor Andy Adams, Councillor Roy Grant, Rhonda Harper from the Visitor Centre and Teresa Davis from Campbell River Tourism & Region.

Second place Top Teams were, Division 1, Mainstream Canada Team #1 and Division 2 Mainstream Canada Team #3.

The success of the event allowed Positive Aquaculture Awareness to continue their tradition of supporting community organizations and PAA was pleased to present a $500.00 donation to the Campbell River United Way.

Positive Aquaculture Awareness (PAA), a grassroots group of industry suppliers and workers with a simple goal – to promote positive awareness of the aquaculture industry looks forward to hosting the 2nd Annual Funspiel in 2012.
